Somehow, I suspect this is just a transition stage to an A.I. weathercast service.  Which
reminds me of the short story with a (postapocalyptic) automated house (spoiler: THE DOG
DIES).  Does anyone remember the name?

of the weather report way back in ... 1961 [a]

[a] my father, who was a scribe/copy editor/everythinger
at a Modest Metropolitan Newspaper had one of the
early, semi portable, reel-to-reel tape recorders
using something like 12 AA batteries.

He had a suction cup inductance coil which he
placed on phone handsets to record the calls...
