We are thinking about getting a Wiseway stove....and are wondering how hot the pellet vent pipe gets on the outer jacket when the stove is running at it's upper heat range.

Our normal pellet stoves never exceed 250 F on the jacket.......
Any input would be sweet...

Thanks

I was curious about this too, so I've had a surface-mounted thermometer sitting next to the built-in Wiseway thermometer all season.

On our Wiseway, the surface temp seems to runs about 100 F below the internal air temp.

At this very moment, the built in thermometer reads ~475F and the surface mounted one reads ~375F.

This 100F difference seems pretty consistent at higher stove temps.

What is the jacket temp rating on the pellet vent pipe ?????

I'm not using pellet vent pipe. I had an existing Class A chimney that I connect to, so only using single wall pipe. When I was measuring that temp, it normally ran around 350-400F. My previous wood-burning stove ran similar temps. I would imagine that if I were using pellet vent pipe, the outer jacket would be around 250F, but I'm talking out of my ass (speculating).

Well...
These numbers are a good reference to work with.

The outer jacket of pellet pipe SHOULD be cooler than the inner  pipe.

OVERALL...
Are you happy with the Stove ?????....Would you buy it again ????

We have two whitfield pellet stoves that we run on nut shells.....and one Quadrafire 1000 that will only burn pellets.

Sadly ...when the power goes out..it's a generator show...
I am getting a bit too old and beat up to fool with cutting wood......
Wife is 75 and I'm 68....both of us are not 100% any more.......

Hey....life been good.

We bought this Wiseway a couple years ago; this is our second winter season. We wanted something that didn't require cord wood or electricity.

I'd buy another one if I had somewhere to put it.

We don't have the ideal installation, since we just plugged into our existing chimney, but it worked the first season while we learned about all the ins-and-outs.

Now that we've finally got everything situated (Vacu-Stak chimney cap, pine pellets, three inch vent pipe, fresh air intake), operation is fantastic.

We have the smaller BTU model (which I think is all they sell now), and it's been heating our house fine from where it is located. We do have an oil-fired boiler as well, so there's backup.

If you're able to do the optimal install (15ft vertical 3-inch pipe), you'd probably have no problems right out of the box.

We just put a new roof on the house and I am loath to cut a hole in the roof.....We can go out the wall and up above the roof peak.

Total rise will be about 12-14 feet.....I was planning on using the 4" pellet pipe as per the factory manual with the stove...

MAKE THE CUT! I had my wiseway installed two years ago & the guy did just that vent out the wall then up the roof. He kept telling me it would be fine even though I asked for it to be vented through the roof and knew it was going to be a problem.  Not just a problem it was dangerous.  I only used it a handful of times & had to stop. The house filled with smoke twice & flames came out of the burn basket. I eventually saved enough to have a new installer come out and do it properly & it runs seamlessly.

Feed it good pellets. I live in the north east and it’s a bit tough to find a variety of soft wood pellets. I tried soft and mixed pellets from local hardware stores to hearth stores & the one I found to burn the best is the premium doug fir by Northern Warmth. The pellets from the hardware store just gunked up & I was constantly stoking the pellets to get them to fall. I tried Matra & they were good but when I went to do a clean there was a large build up of creosote so much so that I had trouble getting the burn basket out which I never had a problem with before.

That's what we use. I had them delivered from 3 hours away, because no one local carries them.

Same. In our first season, after running out of the good stuff, I went with whatever hardwood pellets my local guy was carrying. It was *lots* more work: frequent cleaning, lots of poking the burn basket to keep pellets moving.

Nice, what place did you order from? The store by me charges $9.50 a bag & they don’t offer bulk discounts.

Slater’s Pellets in Cairo, NY. They’re near Albany. I’m not. $8/bag + delivery. If I ordered 10 tons, they’d do free delivery! If only I had a place to put 10 tons of pellets... I ended paying around the same price as you, all said and done.
