Does anyone have any experience with using the KumoApp entitled: "Arm motion sensors when all phones are away from home, disarm when any enters near home." ?  The only way I can get it to work is to have the wirelesstag app open and running on my iphone.  Otherwise the KumoApp does not function.  I currently have it set up to arm/disarm about 700 feet from my home.  It doesn't make any difference on the distance set, it still will not arm until I open the app, and it will not disarm when I return home if I've closed the app until I open the app again.  Ideas, suggestions?

var region = <_Home (only iOS devices supported currently)_>
var tags = <#motion sensors_[12|13|21|52|72]_N#>;
region
.exitAll=function(){

KumoApp.Log("All devices outside, arming...");
    tags
.forEach(function(t){

try{t.arm(true);}catch(e){

KumoApp.Log(t.name+":"+JSON.stringify(e),1);

} });

}
region
.entryAny=function(){

KumoApp.Log("disarming...");
    tags
.forEach(function(t){

try{t.disarm();}catch(e){

KumoApp.Log(t.name+":"+JSON.stringify(e),1);

}

});

}

Depending on the version of iOS you have installed, you need to go to to the Settings app and turn on "Background App refresh" for "WirelessTag" app.

My background refresh setting is correctly set to work with the Wireless Tag App. Today I left my home and received a push notice stating "Left a region, KumoApp is being triggered". However when I returned I did not receive a notice that I had entered a region (my home), nor did the log reflect that anything happened at all.  The last log entry was on the 27th. Today is the 29th. ???  I have the KumoApp distance set at 1000 Ft.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have now removed this KumpApp from any configuration with my tags.  The geo fencing idea is great but this KumoApp does not function correctly. It continues to fail. It will not arm when I leave my residence so I have to open the iPhone App and then it will arm my tags.  When I return home I have to open the iPhone App again before it will disable my tags.  I know that the issue is not my iPhone because I have Blue Iris geo fencing activated as well and Blue Iris always functions correctly, arming and disarming my security cameras when I leave or return home.

I was having the same trouble with the geotracking feature as well. It would only update my location in the app if i opened it for it to update. I also have background app refresh enabled. Would be great to see a solution to this.

When you enter or leave a region, you should receive a push like "entering a region, kumoapp is being triggered". You should get this notification without opening the app. Are you saying you don't get such push notification at all or only get it when you open the app after you entered/left a region?

Exactly, its as if the app doesnt know you entered/left a region until you open the app. It then gives you the notification upon opening.

That's what I feared, because on my phone I get that notification without opening the app.
Have you ever received popup from iOS system with message like "wirelesstag has been using your location in the background, continue to allow this?"

Yes Im sure I did, but I have checked my "Advanced settings" for the wirelesstag app under the iphone settings and location is currently set to Allow always. I would have approved location tracking if I got that message.

Does it make a difference if the app is completely not running vs. running in background (show up if you double click the home button)?

I just tested all day. Coming and going from home a few times. The app was running in the background with app refresh allowed. It never notified me and only when I opened the app would the kumo app trigger.

No I am not able to reproduce this. Does it help if you enable the kumoapp from a web interface, with the iOS app in background, then open the push notification you receive immediately after enabling the kumoapp from web interface on your iOS device, to start monitoring region?

We have submitted a version of the iOS app 2.8.1 for review. This version will send
- a notification when iOS geotracking has notified the app entered/exited region, and before we call KumoApp
- a notification after KumoApp has been called successfully, and
- a notification that iOS has killed the app because network is too slow to call the KumoApp in iOS allocated time (about 10 seconds).
Also we are using a new API to call the web service which is supposed to work better in this situation.
When this version is released, please let me know which of the above notifications you receive when you cross region.

After the last update the kumo app doesn't appear to work at all. At first I enabled the kumo app through the web. Then I tried choosing the kumoapp through the iPhone app and assigning it that way. I get no notifications now, even after opening the app. It used to update my location and run the kumoapp when I opened it.

Good morning Zhiheng,

I installed version 2.8.4 this morning with the same results.  No tags armed after I installed the update and opened the app on my phone.  I still receive all the correct pop-up messages about “Successfully started monitoring…:” and “Left the region around…”, but no tags ever arm.

I will be interested to learn what Justin sees once he updates to 2.8.4.

Thank you,
Sam

Did you click the "Configure" button and check the iPhone you want to use is actually checked below the map/region picker screen?
Do you see anything logged under the KumoApp log?

Greetings.  I have returned after 3 months in Europe and find that I am still having issues with geofencing.  I always have to open the app before it will arm or disarm my tags.  I have the distance set to around 70-100 feet from my tag manager, which is located in my home.  Leaving my home I receive a push notice that it is attempting to start the kumoapp. However nothing happens until I open the app. Return home the same thing happens, or on occasion it says Server Error.  Ideas?

Did you click the "Configure" button and check the iPhone you want to use is actually checked below the map/region picker screen?
Do you see anything logged under the KumoApp log?

Good morning Zhiheng,

I installed version 2.8.4 this morning with the same results.  No tags armed after I installed the update and opened the app on my phone.  I still receive all the correct pop-up messages about “Successfully started monitoring…:” and “Left the region around…”, but no tags ever arm.

I will be interested to learn what Justin sees once he updates to 2.8.4.

Thank you,
Sam

Hi Justin, Slimnil,

I can confirm geotracking kumoapps are working for me without opening the app, it worked as expected every time when I drove around and tested yesterday. Still not working for you?

After the last update the kumo app doesn't appear to work at all. At first I enabled the kumo app through the web. Then I tried choosing the kumoapp through the iPhone app and assigning it that way. I get no notifications now, even after opening the app. It used to update my location and run the kumoapp when I opened it.

Support,

Is the geotracking kumoapp still working for you???  My tags do not arm when I leave my home, although I do received a push notice: "Left the region around (my address), attempting to trigger Kumoapp...".  Upon my return I receive a push notice "Entered the region around (my address), attempting to trigger KumoApp...", usually followed by a second push notice: "Error connecting to server".

Your comments please.

Regards,
Sam

Nothing changed in past 4 month regarding geofencing in the app. The 2nd "error connecting to server" should only happen when your phone has GPS but no internet signal at the time.

Also, if the kumoapp is running on a different server (mytaglist.com vs. my.wirelesstag.net) than the tag's hosting server the arm command will fail. Install the kumoapp on the right server.

Thank you for the quick response.  I appreciate it !!

I only have one Tag Manager for all my tags and it is on wirelesstag.net.  I have rebooted my tag manager twice now, reconfigured the geofencing Kumoapp to extend the distance from 90m to around 200m.

I did a test by driving away from my home and received the normal push notification: “Left the region around…”, however the tags did not arm.  I stopped the car and opened the app and the tags began to arm.  Same results when I returned home. Push notification said: “Entered the region around…” but the tags did not disarm.  Once I opened the app they began to disarm.

I’m open to more of your suggestions.

Thank you!
Sam

Support… Any new ideas on this issue?  I tested again today and I still have to open the iPhone app when I leave my house in order for the tags to arm. Once I close the app I have to open it again when I return home before the tags will disarm.

Sam

Support.  After your most recent update ( 2.9.2, Nov 18th) my Geofencing appears to be working for the first time correctly!!!!  Thank you!!!  I do receive two push notices now, one says attempting to trigger KumoApp, and a second that says KumoApp successfully started.

For whatever reason I seem to receive the above notices twice as I come and go.  Not just one incidence of them but two separate incidences of the same notices.

Attempting to trigger followed by Successfully started followed buy attempting to trigger followed by Successfully started as I drive away from my home.  I can certainly live with that knowing that the tags did arm (or disarm upon my return) correctly now.

Thanks for your work on this!
Sam
