Hello Wisconsin CS community,

I’m putting together a 60‑second "AI in Wisconsin Today" snapshot for an upcoming presentation at MSOE’s AI Week, and I immediately thought of this group. You are the educators who see firsthand how computer science and AI are evolving in real classrooms—what’s working, what’s emerging, and what students are genuinely curious about.

As AI becomes more embedded in CS instruction—from algorithmic thinking to data literacy to responsible use—I want to highlight the authentic experiences happening across Wisconsin. Your insights will help paint a grounded picture of where we are today.

If you’re willing, I’d love a short sentence or quick snapshot about any of the following:

  • What your district is excited about regarding AI
  • What you personally are excited about
  • What you or your colleagues are worried about
  • What you’re doing with AI in your classroom or CS program

Anything small is helpful. Your perspective will make this snapshot far more representative of the work happening across the state.

Thank you for considering, and I hope you have a great day.

Best,
Amy

What are you doing with AI in your classroom or CS program?
I have a 4th/5th classroom.  We are using Code.org in the classroom Course D.  Students are also using Adobe express that has an AI component.  Student are learning to be more detailed in what they want in a finished product.

At Neenah Middle School, we create AI games using Tynker Hour of Ai lessons, Scratch with Ai extension and the Micro:bit using website platforms CreateWithAI. I use lessons from Common Sense and Code.org too.

Our school and district are very supportive of what we do that next year, we will have a course on AI for middle schoolers.

Hi Amy,

What you’re doing with AI in your classroom or CS program:

At Bay Port, I offer an AI for Good course.  We program AI Chatbots, use computer vision to make Lego EV3s into autonomous driving vehicles, and we use machine learning libraries and computer vision to fly Tello Drones with facial recognition.  In my other classes, we use AI to generate code to code trace, and to generate code after we have coded to make comparisons.  In my Student Help Desk class, I have used AI chatbots to simulate customer service interactions and role-playing scenarios (which are hilarious).

Thanks,

Mark

Not being a CS teacher but one who uses CS as a component of social justice, the responsible use of AI is where I am trying to go in my classroom.  Not only does this bring up the issue of the use of resources to power the AI, but how to use AI as a resource to help with their schoolwork instead of a crutch to do the work for them.
