Hi folks,
There’s a lot happening at the Arcade library, particularly for teens!
CAREER FAIRS
These fairs will allow teens to talk one-on-one with a variety of professionals about their careers. No registration required; just stop by! We’ll hold two of the fairs in March (see below); more details are on the attached flyer. Questions? Please email me.
Medicine and Health
3—5 p.m. on Saturday, March 9
Want to learn more about becoming a medical professional? Meet with a medical assistant, pediatrician, vet, nutritionist, dentist, and more!
Public Service
3—5 p.m. on Saturday, March 23
Want to learn about helping the public? Meet with a librarian, social worker, AmeriCorps/Peace Corps volunteer, and more!
DIGITAL STORYTELLING WORKSHOPS
Do you know any teens who love filmmaking, photography, technology, YouTube, and/or writing? How about teens who like to travel, even if it’s just to a different area of Sacramento? A teen who likes to tell stories, real or imagined or both?
Spread the word among the teens you work with: digital storytelling workshops are afoot at three local libraries! Funded by a grant from the Kline Foundation, these will show teens how to construct digital stories and share them through storymaps. Local professionals will lead each workshop – three focusing on writing, filmmaking, and photography respectively – and we’re even throwing in a couple of field trips to Access Sacramento and the Crocker Art Museum (permission slip required; see attached for the slip and the itinerary for the trip to Access Sacramento on 2/23). Teens will also get the chance to work with professional-standard digital cameras, tablets, editing software, and more. Folks who find any content to be triggering may opt out and/or be referred to resources as needed.
We recommend attending all five workshops at one branch if possible. Questions? Please email me.
Best,
Molly Milazzo (she/her/hers)
