Hello,
a colleague of mine just told me about your amazing website. I must say that I love it and thanks very much for making this available to us.
One quick question, just wondered if there's some kind of explanation somewhere about what the layers mean or where they come from?
Specifically I would like to clarify specifically "Access" means as I'm an ecologist and sometimes need to know about open access land and whether we need to ask anyone for permission for access.
Keep up the good work

Was also wondering if there's a legend anywhere for some of the layers, sorry if I'm being blind here.

Hi Andrew,

Press the blue help button on the left/top map tab to get to the help page here

Which has a brief explanation of the layers.

Its worth following the links to the source data from the help and from the attribution at the bottom right of the map

e.g.

and

Hope that helps.

I have just today added LIDAR hill shading for England and Wales.

On the Geological maps and the Living England ground cover map, you can use a right click to look up their web feature service data for the point clicked.

Donations welcome !

Bill
