I just got my bill from my insurance group for my condo and was surprised at my costs. The bill was up $500.00 from last year, nothing has changed in my condo so I have no idea at what put it up. Has this happened to anyone else, and does anyone else have a suggestion?

Personal Liability $1,000,000 Each occurrence
Medical Payments $5,000
Each Person

HHO 507 Additional Insured (AOAO)

My deductible is $1,000

In our situation, I'm not concerned if others feel our personal property coverage is too low. Since the building is concrete construction and fire protection sprinklers specific to each area, I don't see a big risk in widespreaddamages. Hurricane Insurance is excluded. But we are all "scr#w#d" if there's a major Hurricane that manages our building.

And
that "damages" our building.

That's a good question.

It would sure be nice in my opinion.

My family use to go there every year for our "first Maui breakfast". Then, off to Safeway for "rations".  LOL

It would take a concerted effort to convince the local and state politicians to replicate Old Lahaina Town.
They could use the "Historic Exemption" to bypass major hurdles. The shoreline setback could be mitigated also.

University of Hawai‘i has Old Lahaina town scaled to an 1/8 of an inch. It could easily be replicated with newer fire retardent/resistant materials.
And I believe the funding would be available through state and federal funds along with funds from the business owners.

Banana mac nut pancakes for breakfast and Doc Fingers on the piano in the afternoon at the Pioneer.
Then, Longhi's for dinner, Don Drysdale's Pub in the evening, and music 'til midnight at The Blue Max where celebrities {including Elton} would pop in to jam. Never had to leave Lahaina.

Yes, it is true.  A few weeks ago Shaw St was opened (where Salvation Army used to be), and now you can drive down Front Street (north) to the dirt lot at the corner of Front and Prison.  From there you can walk to the harbor.  Lots of people like to surf there and I suppose that’s why this change  has been made.  So now you can drive in from the north to Mall Wharf and from the south to Prison St.  The central part is still closed off.  I drive in regularly to see my lot and look around at Puamana.  There is quite a bit of building going on in Sharkpit.  We are just waiting on permits in Puamana.

Question for the group:

Does anybody know why the tiki torches and propane seems to be off now?     I'm assuming it has something to do with the barbecue investigation?

For those of you that were on island about 5 days ago, the Whaler lost power for about 3 hours... and since the propane was turned off, the generator did not kick on.

I believe the Whaler used to have a diesel generator 4 times of power outages (which seem to be common in Maui), but somehow we switch to a propane unit?

Can anybody opine or comment on this?

Mahalo !!

Aloha Jim

The power went off for close to an hour. It was off next door at the Outrigger and areas across Kaanapali Pkwy.
Our generators did not kick on because there was an malfunction in a relay, a switch, or other part. The power came back on in roughly an hour.

The backup generator was repaired the following day. It had nothing to do with propane.
The propane tanks and lines have been tested post the BBQ incident. No leaks detected.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the torches won't be turned on for another month or two.

Mahalo for the webcam.... we love it and view it regardless of where we are, including while we are at the Whaler.

Are those new concrete slabs?  Just curious.

Aloha Bill and Greg

What you are seeing is the crushed rock that was brought in where the original foundations were. The lots were excavated down several feet. They hauled the dirt and contaminated debris to the temporary landfill.
There are dozens under construction in the Lahaina area, which is great to see.
One of the lots in your picture of Kamaka Circle and Front Street has the white chalk on top of the crushed rock outlining where the owner is getting ready to trench for their footing.

I do too, but the new location at the Marriott works well. Only the street ambiance is missing.

When Bob passed away in 2012 the kids tried to carry on the tradition but it didn't work out, and they closed in 2019 after 42 years.

Son, Peter is now in charge. If you want to talk about Longhi's history with Peter and long time door man John McCrea, they hold court at the bar most Friday nights.
Next year will be Longhi's 50th anniversary, and I'll celebrate 50 years of dining there.
