Dear Westview Managment:
As our hallway nears completion several things occur to me:
  1. The Hispanic folks who did the work were very kind and thoughtful and appreciated my smattering of Spanish given their lack of English.
  2. I would like to know who chose hospital white walls and morgue-appropriate gray and black carpeting for hallways that, for twenty years and more, reflected the good taste and individual preferences of the residents.  I can see no reason why the photos, artwork, plants and front door decorations that informed passersby that actual people lived in these apartments were required to be removed a year ago and, we are told, may not be replaced .  Building staff have no clue as to the rationale behind these choices; certainly the fire laws have nothing to say regarding artwork on the walls.  Why residents were not included in these decisions reflects an on-going tone deafness from management and owners.
Shame on you.

There is no decent apartment building in New York City allow tenants to decorate hallways. That is very dangerous, look ugly and poor taste. I am not sure even the city project apartments allow the hall way decorations.  Some apartments even had stickers on their door!!!  I must say that I strongly disagree with Matthew's comment.

My response is to tenants only.
I did not forward this to management or  the Roosevelt Islander.

Good Day,
As of today we have no voice about anything the management does. I’m afraid even as a shareholder there is nothing I/we can do until a board is created. I have asked management multiple times when a board would be established but they have no answers. There just pawns sitting at a desk.

This building is primarily owned by a corporation, the Greenthal Mgmt owns more shares then the tenants.  So no doormats or any holiday decorations or personality allowed!  I hope we can change this in the future, but however I do believe that guidelines must be made so it doesn’t become anyones extra storage area or become  a religious or political display.  I’d hate to live across from anything other than a doormat or a “very temporary” holida or seasonal wreath.
I am a shareholder and my major appliances need to be replaced because before the purchase our refrigerator broke and the management  replaced it with a used damaged piece of crap. I want to buy a new one but first I need to remodel my counter to fit the new one in and I can’t because there is no board to approve any changes.
I didn’t realize it would take over a year to get a board. I know our WV task force is no longer active but maybe it’s time to have our own private tenants meeting to list our grievances and then what….. get a lawyer???
Any suggestions on what we can do
As tenants?
It is very upsetting that we have no representation.

Janine

Would be nice to also have that ridiculous eyesore of a gazebo (or whatever that structure should be called) removed from the courtyard, because it is utterly useless, and has just damaged the grass and replaced it by what is actually a very limited seating space. It was a pet project of a young architecture professor from The New School, Drew Seskunas, who happens to be (surprise!) friends with our owner (Seskunas is also responsible for the interior design of the Island House lobby).
I talked to Seskunas and corresponded with him while the gazebo was being constructed and advised him that what he was calling a "community improvement project" never involved any input from the community it was supposed to improve, and that most of us, especially those whose view that giant basket is now polluting would like to see it gone. I considered organizing a petition for its removal, but have given up, because, as much as I believe in collective action, I don't think we the tenants have any power over anything happening in and around our building at this time.
With best regards,
