Police are stepping up patrols along the Charles River path

ADVISORY:   Police stepping up patrols along Charles River pathways State police are stepping up patrols along the Charles River from Waltham to Cambridge as a result of a sexual assault that occurred between Bridge Street and the Blue Heron Bridge, last Monday, the Village 14 Blog is reporting State trooper David Procopio  told Village 14 that troopers are patrolling the area to identify homeless encampments in the area and to offer options to the homeless in the area including shelter and hospitalization.   In a statement sent to the Newton-Needham Chamber, Newton Police Lt. Bruce Apotheker said "the suspect believed responsible in that alleged episode on Monday, September 21, has been arrested and we believe that this was an isolated incident."
