Hi,

Is it possible to import an old 2.6.1 database into a fresh install on a new RPi?
Would any changes in the database format be automatically handled or do I need an update procedure for that?

Thanks.

Hi,

Am sure Tom will come along with some succinct wise words but in the interim I would say it depends. There was a fundamental change in database structure (and hence some key portions of the source code) between version 2 and version 3. You will likely find the upgrade process is automatically invoked when you install a version 3 version, and that upgrade process will take care of the database changes. Where the depends part comes in is if you happen to be running any customisations, chances are they will need to be upgraded as well. If it’s a plain vanilla install you will likely be fine.

All that being said it is probably worthwhile skimming through the Upgrade Guide (http://weewx.com/docs/upgrading.htm#From_V2.7_or_earlier) which contains instructions to upgrade from various versions. Whatever you do make a back up first, a cautious user might attempt an upgrade on a separate machine in the first instance.

Thanks for that Gary.

Was afraid it wouldn't be just straightforward. I'm gonna give it a try on another SD-card.
Just to clarify my current SD-card is corrupted but I have a backup of the database files, hence I have to do a new install anyway to get things working.
I'll report back how things went later.
