Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a home weather station to keep me amused as a programming/data analytics amusement.

I'm pretty comfortable on the Linux and programming side of things, but completely new to weather stations!

My aim is to pull the data onto a PC and analyze with Python/Pandas, or perhaps R.

It looks like weewx can interface with the USB connection of various consoles (among other things).

A quick look down the Hardware/Driver status shows Aercus WS3083 is supported, but this is discontinued and replaced by WS3085 (not listed).

I can find hints, but no direct clarification, that WS3085 also works from searching the web - can anyone confirm?

If not, any recommendations for currently available stations in the £100-£200 mark in the UK also welcome - the most important things to me are accessibility of the data for my own analysis, followed by ease of setup/use/maintenance.  If I want to publish my data online, I figure I can handle that from the PC once I have the raw data sat on disk?

Cheers,
Phil.

I don't have guidance on the hardware side, but weewx is the software you want. It stores data in a SQL database for doing whatever you want with it. The graphing capabilities out of the box are likely sufficient anyway. Publishing online in the form of a web page is built in. Publishing to a FTP site is also available. Writing your own code python or javascript to do something else is completely open.  The price is right and if there's something you don't like about it, you have the source code to change it.

Thanks for the reply - great, this is exactly what I want - raw SQL access
will serve my needs perfectly well.

So all I have to do is buy the right station now :-)
