Hi,

We have multiple Vantage Pro 2 we bought several years ago. We're using vproweather which works pretty well.

However, the last station we bought seems to be slightly different and we can't get it work with vproweather, so I had a look on Weewx, installed version 3.9.1 and tried it.

But I see the same issue. Basically any command sent to the Vantage Pro 2 ends with: SECURED-LOGGER FAILED.

So when I start Weewx daemon, it says:

Jun  3 22:58:09 solar1 weewx[2715]: vantage: Gentle wake up of console successful
Jun  3 22:58:09 solar1 weewx[2715]: vantage: No <ACK> received from console

And indeed it doesn't get a ACK but the string: SECURED-LOGGER FAILED.

It is exactly the same problem I encounter. Sadly, the solution isn't documented.

It is like if Davis included some kind of authentication or something like this and we are not allowed to use it something else than their Windows software.

Would anyone have any idea about this issue ?

Thank you,
kind regards.

Yes. Somewhere along the line, Davis put in firmware that attempts to validate the type of logger you have. This was an attempt on their part to make it hard for 3rd party loggers. A side effect is that old loggers will not work in new consoles.

So, I suspect you are either using a 3rd party logger, or trying to use an old logger in your new console. If the latter, Davis will swap them out. Contact them.

Or, I could be completely wrong!

Thank you for your help.

Just to be sure, could you define "console" dans "logger" ? You mean the adapter cable we put inside could be a version which is not working with the weather station ?

I wrote to Davis, but I still didn't get any answer.

Kind regards.

Yes. The cable is attached to what is actually a data logger, which contains 1Mbit of memory. The weather records are actually stored in this logger, not in the console. The logger has to be compatible with the console. More about this.

That surprises me. I've always found their support to be very good. Did you try sup...@davisinstruments.com? Or, call them at +1 510-732-9229.

I probably contacted from some wrong place. Anyway, I was able to contact them tonight and the problem is exactly what you said and what's explained on the website you cited before.

So I will have to get this Mfg code from the console and logger and if needed I will ask our local reseller to exchange the logger.

They also assured me that we can use any third-party software to get data from the station.

Thank you for your help,
kind regards.
