I recently purchased an Acurite weather station that will work with weewx. It will be delivered in a few days.

I also registered through CWOP. I will be waiting for that approval.

That being said I'm an amatuer radio station. Upon signing up to CWOP with my callsign it told me that my station would need to be sending data to an active APRSWXNET server.

I'm having a very hard time finding any information to send to APRSWXNET and signup using that. Seems multiple google searches have led me to nowhere using this method.

I'm pretty sure I will have no issue getting weewx itself to work but where do I find this option to signup to APRSWXNET.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I thank you for that link. I read everything and it doesn't state anything signing up to get my data sent to them.

However, I found a video of a ham operator setting his up to APRS. He used the aprs.fi server. He did have an additional setup that would transmit his information through a ham frequency. Something I don't plan on doing.

At this point I believe I just need to get things sent to the server and it will go from there. I do have an account at aprs.fi but from his setup there was no account sign in and password just a passcode.

If there is any others on how they setup to APRS from weewx I would be happy to take your tips and suggestions.

I am not a radio amateur so I may be wrong, but the text provided by the link reads: "The APRSWXNET/Citizen Weather Observer Program is...". So I would think APRSWXNET and CWOP are synonyms or at least belong together and registering with CWOP is enough.

So at some point APRSWXNET was moved into CWOP. This made CWOP all of it as a whole. I did sign up through the NWS website for CWOP. Since I'm an amatuer radio operator I wanted to use my call sign. When I selected the option for HAM radio operator it told me my station needed to be sending data to an APRS server.

At this time I believe I figured it out by watching a video from another HAM operator setting up his acurite station. I'm at the point I can get and APRS packet but sending it to the internet is what I'm working on next. I think I have that setup as well.

If you go to http://www.wxqa.com/ you will see a link top-center to join CWOP. Once you do that you can use your CWOP ID within Weewx to send weather data to CWOP.

CWOP is the overall system with citizen weather reporting, while APRSWXNET is the packet radio section of CWOP - ham radio operators sending CWOP weather data via packet radio. Two parts of the same puzzle - either way it ends up visible to NOAA/NWS etc.

I've thought about connecting up to send via APRS but weewx will already send this data so it seems like a lot of extra work for something I'm already doing.

Ah I see what you mean. So I'm assuming that once I'm sending to CWOP it will show up on sites like aprs.fi? I see many sites on there that aren't HAM operators.

I am also wondering how do I get weewx to send to CWOP.

That is quite easy as sending to CWOP is a built-in feature of WeeWX. Look for the [[CWOP]] section in weewx.conf, set station and passcode to the appropriate values of your station and enable to true. That's all.

Mike,
Here is my setup from weewx.conf

[[CWOP]]
        # This section is for configuring posts to CWOP.

        # If you wish to post to CWOP, set the option 'enable' to true,
        # then specify the station ID (e.g., CW1234).
        enable = true
        station = N4MRV-1
        # If this is an APRS (radio amateur) station, specify the
        # passcode (e.g., 12345). Otherwise, ignore.
        passcode = xxxx [get code from CWOP]

Thank you, I left the passcode blank for now.

CWOP told me to use my callsign as my station ID in my new account email. I got that in.

I'm assuming now since this is in the configuration file that is it. I don't have to do anything else?

Mike,
I think that should work. I don’t remember anything else except to enable it and fill in the blanks (and restart weewx).
As an amateur operator you can get a passcode and I think it adds your call sign to the record. I believe you can just leave it blank.
Good luck.
