So, Looks like Version 4 is beta testing with Python 3?

My background is I've been using weewx since version 2.0.2, and the pc its running on is getting a little wonky.

I've got a custom 'filegenerator' and 'imagegenerator' that need to be upgraded to the latest version.

I'm wanting to put  weewx on a raspberry pi as part of this who upgrading process.

I'd like to just go through the upgrade once, so was thinking that I should just go ahead and get things working with python 3/Weewx 4, since I have to go through the work anyway.

I'm pretty familiar with raspberry pi's and messing around with them, so not really concerned about that. I've done a little Python in the past and figure upgrading my custom code won't be that bad, once I get the whole environment setup and configured.

Here's my weather site.  www.palominovalleyweather.com.  The only real custom parts is the noaa forecast at the top of the front page and my custom 'windrose' image.

So, Just wondering what the folks here would recommend?

Thanks!

Brent

I have site running on 3.5 that has a fair bit of customization and I'm waiting for 4 to come out officially before I migrate.

My only suggestion is to spin up a VM - I use VirtualBox, but any VM system will do - that's running Raspian and do a trial run with your site before going with a full upgrade. That way you can work out any kinks without keeping your site down.

Thanks!  Weewx 4 it is.

I think I'll just start with the beta and start getting things ready directly on the pi.

I can keep my current box running a while longer, just need to reboot it now and then.

But I know that it won't last forever.

Version 4 is pretty stable --- I've been running it for months. The only reason it isn't out is our packaging expert is out of the country and unavailable. When he gets back, we'll be ready to post!

As for Python 2 vs 3: the choice is yours. WeeWX V4 will work under either version. However, your extensions may not!

Well, My extensions already don't work, lol, so there's that.

No reason not to go weewx4 and python 3.

I've got an SSD coming in a few days, so when it gets here I figure I'll get everything setup and working with the base config, and then start working on my customizations.

I figure I'll use the SSD to store the all of the 'volatile' files, database, etc, instead of abusing the SD card on the pi.

Should be a fun project, and I've learned my lesson about keeping things up to date.
