My son and I built a Pi station using Weewx and I like to keep things updated but don't want to goof anything up. I "followed directions" to install this meaning I don't have a lot of background in coding. Can I just follow the install instructions and if so is there anything to watch out for during the install?

I'm assuming you're using a standard skin and haven't done much customization, haven't added extensions, etc. If so, apt-get update, apt-get upgrade should do it with little risk. But that's a lot of assumptions. Make a backup copy of at least the database (weewx.sdb) so that if worst comes to worst, you can just wipe it, reinstall, and restore the backup copy of the database and not lose anything.

The whole point of the instructions is to make the answer 'yes - you can just follow the instructions'.

There's really no reason to update ever, if what you built is working for you already.
