new install LOOP batch try #3; error: Unable to wake up Vantage console

New install on Inovato Quadra. Latest Weewx version installed using DEB package on Debian-based systems,

System will run fine for hours, sometimes days. I'm suspecting comm problem between console and weewx??  Any suggestions much appreciated.

Then, as you suspected, it's likely a communications problem between the logger and the computer. 

Things to try:

Is it located near a source of RF?

Are you using a serial-to-usb converter? If so, try another one.

Install ferrite chokes on the cable.

Don't feel RF is the issue as the past few events were during a time that the radio's were off.

Happened again this morning after restarting... log entries were the same.

Any suggestions on a solid serial -USB converter chip-set to use??.

I really doubt it. There are thousands of them working uneventfully around the world.

RF sources can be microwaves, railroads, industrial processes, etc. There are lots of things in the 900 MHz+ band.

You implied that you're using a serial-to-usb converter. That's the most likely culprit.

Just an update on the issue. I tried another USB to serial converter (different chipset) with no joy.  Would run for a time and finally error out

The baud rate was at 9600 so I tried 19200 and had zero communication between the Weewx and the Vantage Vue.

I tried each successive slower rate until I arrived at 1200 baud and it's been now a month with no problem.

My guess is that it could be the Davis serial port data logger???, but at the cost of swapping it out with the USB  version I think I'll call it a win.

Interesting. I am running a Prolific converter at 19200 with good
results (VP2, serial logger).

I can completely understand calling that good enough if it works.

sounds like XON/XOFF problem (slow receiving side hardware/driver)
