Missing Midnight database update

station LaCrosse ws2316
weewx version 3.8.2
hardware Raspberry Pi

I have noticed that the midnight updates to the database do not happen. My cron entries is 0,5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55,59. I added the 59 entry otherwise my report data stopped at 23:54 now I get report data at 23:59. My station update interval is set for 1 minute which is supported by the wx2316. Not a big deal but wanted to report this in case there is a fix otherwise I will dig into the code myself and see what I can find. Not sure if this is a software problem in weewx or the station itself.
Here are the database timestamps. There is a jump of a 120 seconds instead of 60 seconds. This is the only time in the day that jumps 120 seconds.

Hi,
My cron entries is 0,5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55,59.
Can you tell what these cron entries are? As far as I know WeeWX does not need cron entries when connected to a WS23xx.

This seems odd, the only previously logged report thread appeared to have completed normally well before. This may well be another symptom of the problem. Could you leave debug=1 and restart WeeWX and provide a log extract that shows the entire WeeWX startup through until the 2nd record is processed.

Apologies for delay in replying, otherwise busy.
Nothing unusual in the startup, I thought the polling interval being None may have caused an issue but judging by the log and the driver code that seems to be result in a sensible default being used later.
One thing that might be worthwhile looking at is what loop data is being received around midnight. A setup that uses software record generation requires loop data to enable WeeWX to synthesise an archive record; no loop data in an archive period means no archive record which means no reports (for that archive period). If you happen to be up around midnight you might want to run WeeWX directly so that loop packets and archive records are displayed on screen. I would be interesting to see what is being emitted by the driver in the few minutes before and after midnight. If you are not up around midnight you could run WeeWX directly and redirect/pipe the output to a file for analysis later.
I suspect though that you might need someone with some detailed knowledge of the 23xx series stations and the 23xx driver.

Hi,
I been looking at the driver and have put additional debug code into where the loop packets get generated and will see tonight what happens. What I see now is the packets get read/generated every 14-16 seconds so I will know more tomorrow.

Hi,
So just to close this off, it looks like the LaCrosse ws2316 has a "out of service" time that starts 30 seconds before midnight and continues for 60 seconds after midnight where it does not respond to any input requests. Probably doing some house keeping. So there are no loop packets during this time. Now I know.
