Setting weather station type/name? Interceptor device_type observer

Hey all,

I'm happy using the interceptor driver (https://github.com/matthewwall/weewx-interceptor) with a config similar to this:

[Interceptor]
     driver = user.interceptor
     device_type = observer
     port = 8000

However, because of this, my station generally reports the station or hardware type "observer".

This doesn't make sense, as it neither describes the actual weather station, nor does it help users to form a subjective estimation of its accuracy and quality.

How can I make Weewx report the correct weather station type, e.g. "Ambient Weather WS-2902A"?

Where does "weewx report the correct weather station type" ?
Where do you want to see e.g. Ambient Weather WS-2902A or Froggit WH3000SE or Ecowitt WH2910 "reported"/written by weewx ?

e.g. in the Seasons skin in the section "About this weather station" ?

If you mean that place, then I have e.g. made this information look like:

About this weather station ♦

Hardware

ecowitt-client - WH4000SE / WH2320E

Based on this information one can think of various ways how to change the default value...

thanks for your quick answer! Yes you are right, let me clarify. Yes e.g. in the seasons skin as you said. However you can also see "observer" in NeoWX or under https://www.weewx.com/stations.html

I thought/hoped that certainly I am able to give weewx a valid weather station type to work with. If that is not possible I wonder if a feature request should be created for that?

thanks for your help. Following the weewx developer documentation I figured out that the interceptor driver is limited. I opened an issue to improve that: https://github.com/matthewwall/weewx-interceptor/issues/96

Let's hope we can improve this quickly :)
