Is there an easy way to test custom mods to index.html.tmpl?

Assuming one is not a stellar Python programmer, like me, is there a way to test Python mods made to a custom version of index.html.tmpl other than wee_peports?

I always get it eventually, but often it takes some iterations.  I want to make a copy of index.html.tmpl with a temporary name and force it through Cheetah and weewx without having it blow up and not update my website, etc.

If there is, I can fix errors and warnings while the "production" version continues to do its thing.

Yeah. Create a virtual machine and install weewx and your skin with the Simulator driver. Test all you want without disrupting your real station. You can do it on AWS for cheap or on your own hardware for free.

I don't know. I haven't used AWS for a while. Last time I did, there was a micro instance that you could get for pennies a year. 

I use Oracle Virtualbox on my local PC for VMs to try out stuff on Weewx. It's free.

It's not "pennies a year", but I use AWS Lightsail for both my private website, and for weewx.com. 

Bills have been running about $13/month for two processors, each with 1GB. They offer a $3.50/month processor with 512MB.
