Hi

I'm using a Weatherlink IP to interface to my Davis Console. I run Weewx in the cloud using a Linux VPS.

My  Weatherlink IP seems to have become flakey . The Weatherlink IP is obsolete so wondering if there's an alternative IP interface from Weewx to the Davis station ?

Alternatively there are still some Weatherlink IPs around and I can get a replacement.

Many thanks
Michael

I run one and just received a notice about a firmware update for the WLIP from Davis - why do you think they are obsolete? BTW, the update isn't needed to keep WeeWX happy.

WeeWX 3.9.2 runs off a Linux box and finds and interacts with the link just fine.

Also, define flaky, I was having restart problems until I assigned the device a static IP from the DNS pool on my router, other than that, it seems to work fine.

Cheers,
John

Hi John

This link says its discontinued

It has a fixed IP - just stops working until I remove the module and replace it. Been working fine for many years and in the past 6 months has had issues.

Cheers
Michael

I have several serial to IP adapters attached to serial data loggers - my setup pre-dates WLIP. Looks just like WLIP to the software, including weewx.

I've been using a Raspberry PI with a package called ser2net.    Since it is a RaspPi you can now attach to Davis console via WiFi as well.

Yep - looks like it was superseded with that other module shown, the Weatherlink Cloud , great name eh?

I just updated my Linux box to a new, used PC, which required a new install of MariaDB, Python et al and I copied my old WeeWX config on to the new machine, I've not had the problem "Unable to load driver [Err no 113] no route to host." It used to happen when I'd restart the old PC, both machines were/are running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

That error required that I pull the plug on the WLIP and restart it, then restart WeeWX. As can happen, this would run well for months, then I'd do an update or something requiring a reboot and have to reset the adapter. I wish I knew exactly which change/update fixed it for me, but there were too many to track.

My experience may be unique, but you have little to lose if you backup your DB and WeeWX config then updated your installs. Never know what else you can break doing that *-).
