Dear All
Many thanks to Belinda and The SA Jewish Museum for a lovely afternoon yesterday - great food, great vibes, great participation (what a turn out!) and great hosting and presenting! Will share all the photos the Museum took once I have sorted the tech of sharing them. But here is one to whet your appetite 🙂

As we head towards the end of the year, here is the wrap-up of our Educator Group year and please make sure you save the dates for our meetings for next year.
A HUGE thanks to those who have already volunteered to host and present for next year! We are still looking for a host and/or presenter/topic for October 2025 (date is flexible). Let me know - first come first served!
2023 meeting wrap-up
Our Group has had three successful meetings this year:

Feb meeting was presented and hosted by the Western Cape Archives and Records Service on using primary sources in programming with a taste of their new Grade 20 programme on enslaved people at the Cape that aims to teach historical research skills.

June meeting was presented and hosted by the Lwandle Migrant Labour Museum. The ice breaker activity scrambled our brains and we were excited to see their exhibitions and the hostel and share some of our common challenges and get other's input on possible solutions.

Oct meeting was hosted and presented by the SA Jewish Museum on getting the most out of object-based learning
Thanks to all who attended and contributed in so many ways. This Group is what it is because of YOU!
2025 Meetings
For those new to the Group, our meeting topics below are generated by the Group and are always as practical and relevant to education work across content areas/disciplines as possible. Our hosts volunteer to offer us some space and a cup of tea. Sometimes they present too or sometimes they don't, but all our meetings are followed by a tour/taste of what our host offers so we get to know each other's organisations.
Thursday 20 February: Herschel Girls School, Claremont, 1:30pm-3:30pm
Oral histories are great way to expand your offerings but can be daunting. In the lead up to the School's centenary, the Herschel Museum and Archives did some online and in-person interviews with live transcriptions to capture the oral histories. They will tell us what they did, how and how the interviews were used.
Tuesday 24 June: Long March to Freedom, Century City, 1:30pm-3:30pm
Let's get a taste of their heritage-themed team building activity!
Thursday 16 October: NEEDS A HOST AND/OR PRESENTER 1:30-3:30pm
