Dear All
Estelle Jansen found my email address on the WCED portal. See her email below. I promised to put her email and request to our group of educators as I know some of you are able to provide transport and/or free visits. Please contact her estelle....@gmail.com if you are able to help in any way.

Good morning Ms Joannides

I found your name on a WCED portal, which gives access to the Western Cape Educational Museums Group when in desperation I googled funding for school excursions.

My husband and I are assisting at Linge Primary School. My husband, Charles Jansen is a retired principal with 42 years experience in education and sports administration. His last post was as principal of Thomas Wildschutt Primary School. I am a retired teacher with 35 years teaching experience, my last teaching post was at Oaklands High School where I was the liaison between the Peter Clark Art Centre and the manager of the school choir. I realised that education outside of the classroom allows for enrichment and growth leading to meaningful citizenship.

You might wonder why we opted to support Linge Primary. Our support assistance and encouragement is always warmly received. Educators are eager and the principal encourages growth and development.

We aim to make a difference at the school and encourage the educators to provide the learners with new experiences.

Linge Primary is situated in the crime-ridden area of Nyanga. The learners face many sub-economic challenges however the educators show an interest and are willing and able to make a difference. The community plays a meaningful role in school governance and support.

Due to financial constraints the learners seldom venture out of the area. We are saddened by the fact that Cape Town has so much to offer in terms of educational enrichment and natural beauty, which these learners never get to experience. I sincerely hope that you will be able to assist in broadening the horizons of the learners at Linge Primary School.

Yours in education
Estelle Jansen

Dear Estelle. It is so easy to do your own fundraising. With close 30 years experience. You have to draft income and expenses for donee to see. Always include photos of children how many transport is required and also poverty explained. We're to and back etc. Who else involved and obtain back up from school appointing you and so on. Ask for appointments and companies. Vehicle companies. VW at NI has many vehicles standing idle thus busses. Kind regards. Ken

Dear Estelle

The City of Cape Town has an exhibition at the City Hall that is accessible to school children and the public at large.  Therefore, I have copied Stoffel Smallberger, the Curator of the Collection into this e-mail.  Please follow up with him to determine to what extent, if at all, aid would to transport the school children but it is important for you to provide details regarding the number of children, age groups, etc  If aid is available, the visit to the City Hall could coincide with a visit to the Castle on the same day.  It may be overwhelming for the children to visit both on the same day, if aid is available.  However, contact the CEO of the Castle, Calvyn Gilfellen, copied into this  email, in this regard.

Best wishes.

Dear Estelle and Colleagues

The Zeitz MOCAA is a museum for contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora and the Zeitz MOCAA Centre for Art Education offers tours and workshops to school groups.

Tours last for 45 minutes to 1hour and workshops for three hours.

The museum opens at 10:00.

We can provide transport for learners from under-resourced schools and if you school is connected to a feeding scheme will provide a snack for learners if they do a full morning workshop at the museum.

The workshops focus on the Creative Arts inspired by an exhibition or artist in the museum.

I am connecting you with @Mandisa Ngqulana, my colleague who co-ordinates the Schools Programme.

We would be very happy to welcome learners from Linga Primary School to our museum.

Kind regards

Liesl Hartman

Head of the Zeitz MOCAA Centre for Art Education.

Lovely to hear from you Estelle 😊
