Proactive Storage Tank Removal – Howard University East Campus
Howard University will undergo proactive work at its Howard East Campus on Friday, October 1. This removal is being done in strict adherence to DCMR 5603.1 and as part of our ongoing community stewardship. The work will involve one day of fieldwork (moving concrete pad, excavating and removal of USA and backfilling excavation), and the required DOEE and DC Fire permits have been issued.
The University has contracted an environmental consultant, AKRF Inc. (www.akrf.com), to provide regulatory coordination and conduct the safe removal of an out of use 550-gallon diesel underground storage tank and its associated piping, followed by backfill and site repair. This proactive work will be done in accordance with all applicable regulations and procedures. We will continue to keep the community abreast of our activities throughout our engagement and development.
