Hi, everyone -

The yellow-tinted streetlight right next to our home has burned out and I’m going to call 311 to ask that the bulb is replaced. We’ve done that before with no problem. However, we’ve noticed that there are several new lights along Walhalla now, that are *glaringly* bright. It’s not that yellow/orange-tinged, standard light but a *bright* whitish sort of light. Any advice how to get them to replace our bulb with the standard yellow bulb? I thought that’s what they were supposed to do for “wildlife reasons,”’or something like that, right?

FWIW, I’m concerned about this bc a neighbor up the road told me they called a few months ago about a burned out bulb in front of their home on Walhalla and it was replaced with this horribly bright lightbulb that is still there now. She said it’s hard to even look in that direction at night bc it’s so bright.

Any insight or advice, anyone?

Thanks!

Sarah @49

Years ago (20?)  Walhalla had an agreement with the city to replace bulbs with gentler versions, but that most certainly has been forgotten. You are right;  the new bulbs are not only brighter, they seem to be targeted like spotlights.

I've complained about  the ultrabright light outside our house.  I asked the people with Blueprint if we could get more friendly lights written into the plan for the  street restoration but didn't get anywhere.

I suggest you raise the issue when you call about the replacement, but it might fall on deaf ears.   But it's one more thing we can raise with the city.  If they hear from enough people, maybe they will act.

the new ones are awful — the light penetrates normal curtains and interferes with sleep. Problem for wildlife, problem for residents.

I've complained to DPS about them (almost exactly a year ago) -- and how they actually make it LESS safe for pedestrians because of the night-vision-destroying super-bright lights followed by dark unlit spots.  Apparently our neighborhood has not actually had the new LED lighting engineered/tuned/officially-installed (and they're just putting them in as replacements when the old ones fail).  The official installation (with brightness adjustment, aiming, and shielding) was still a while off last time I checked.

If you contact 311, please reference my open request CAS-2506841-C4N0Q0

I'll also poke my contact at DPS (and our neighborhood liaison, Stacey Buttel) to see what is going on.
