Hi, all,

Walhalla neighbors have lost several large old oaks to the deadly wilt disease in the past few years.  This disease spreads two ways:  by a beetle on open cuts and by interconnected root systems.  Oak wilt acts and kills fast.

Mary and Dave Jones, who have lost a mammoth oak,  offered their home to host an information session on what we can do to protect our trees.

Tim Ascher, a certified arborist with  Ascher Tree Services,  will talk with us at 7 p.m. Aug.  5  at 288 Walhalla Rd.

If you would like to come, please send me an RSVP  to cindy....@gmail.com so we can get an idea of how many will be there.

As always, you needn't be on Walhalla proper to participate.   Our neighboring streets and others with an interest are welcome.

Hope to see you there.

Cindy

Cindy,
Thank you for your email.  We have several large oaks on our property and are very interested in protecting them.  I would love to come tonight but had knee replacement two weeks ago today and a husband with Alzheimer’s that will prevent that. Would you mind sharing the findings with me after the fact?  We have Alum and Arbor coming in the fall to do more cabling and trimming of the canopy.  One of their arborists did a walk through to make recommendations.  He thought they looked pretty healthy.   I am particularly interested in how this beetle is detected as well as treatment if it is found.

Thank you,
Ellie Haggard on Brynhild.

I apologize.  I did not see the date in my quick read of the message and thought the meeting was tonight.  Please disregard.
