Hi All,

A reminder that the above-mentioned contest will start on this Saturday, 22nd November, and run through until Sunday 23rd November - details here https://www.wia.org.au/members/contests/vhfuhf/documents/2025%20Spring%20VHF-UHF%20Field%20Day%20Rules.pdf

Couple of notes, this is NOT one of our normal Activity days, (being the fourth in the month), but that does not stop someone going up to the Shack and using the club gear as a "home/fixed station" - either with their own callsign or one of the club ones.

Please note also that the club's special event callsign - VK70VHF is available for use, so, if someone DOES wish to go and, say, set up the TS2000 as a four-bander (6m, 2m, 70cm, 23cm) and use the VK70 call-sign I would strongly support that. I have already checked and VKCL4 accepts it as a valid call-sign.

If someone DOES want to do that, there are several short cables already on the 2m, 70cm and 23cm ports of the TS2000 which can be hooked up to the triplexer from the shack beacon, and allows those three bands to go out on the vertical antenna on the shack, while the 6m goes out on the upper beam on the tower as normal. I can explain how to set that up if necessary.

If there are no takers for that, but someone wants to use the VK70 call-sign from their home-station I would support that too.

And finally, if no-one wants either of those opportunities, I will try to light up a couple of bands myself (probably 6m and 2m and maybe 70cm) from my QTH - and use the VK70 callsign

It is my understanding that there can only be one fixed/home station using VK70VHF for the whole contest, so it's important that if you do want to use either of the above opportunities, you MUST let me know beforehand so I can ensure your QSO's will be valid.

Note that I will accept requests for the club call on a first-come-first-get basis, not on how many QSOs you think you will get ... so if you want it, get in quick!

Cheers, Dave VK6KV

Hi everyone

Following on from Dave's Wednesday email re: the field day:  I will plan to be at Wireless Hill tomorrow (Sat 22-Nov) for the field day, running a field station on 6m, 2m and 70cm. The designated start time for VHF-UHF in Western Australia is noon local (04:00 UTC). So I plan to be there from around 11:30 am or earlier to get a field station set up. I am not currently planning on using VK70VHF myself, so that is up for grabs as described by Dave in his email.

I can open up the shack for anyone wanting to take up Dave's offer of using the TS2000, with or without the VK70VHF callsign.  If you want to do either or both of those things, please coordinate with Dave and I through this email list. If anyone wants to continue using the TS2000 on Sunday, please request an open-up through this email list, and one of us with a key should be able to assist.

This is a really good opportunity for anyone who has not participated in a field day - come along and I/we can show you the ropes. You could run your own station if you like, even with a hand-held.  If you are still waiting on getting a Foundation licence, or even just thinking about getting one, you can operate on a club callsign if you are "supervised" by a member who has a licence, so don't let the lack of a call-sign stop you!  For the "mike-shy" just come along, watch, and ask questions.

Regards, Mark

Hi everyone,

for those who participated in the VHF/UHF field day this weekend, don't forget to upload your logs. The link to do so can be found here: https://www.wia.org.au/members/contests/upload/

I believe it needs to be in Calibro format. VKCL knows how to output this format. So far, around 13 logs from around Australia have been uploaded and one from WA.

I look forward to seeing the results in a couple of weeks. Personally, I was happy to get a few contacts on 6m for the very first time ever, despite a rather high SWR (I'll need to look into this). :)
