QQ re: DX exchange

Hi! Playing a bit in the 10m contest. On CW, the DX station sends 599 and a sequential number. I vaguely remember something about this, but I failed to print out the article.

I got "599 2A3" and I believe it's a shorthand for (maybe) 1 or 0.  Can anyone point me to a good resource?  Thanks!

Cut numbers (see below).  Some people love them, some hate them.  1, 9, and 0 are often used.  The rest, not so much (at least I have not heard them on air).  I use the three popular ones if I am sending with a key.
