Moore Reservoir has a ton of great ice!  Also varying levels of orange peel, & going over snowmobile tracks (though not as bad/many as I feared).  Two considerable pressure ridges easily crossed by going towards land on east side.  Some closed but wet cracks.  Sadly the ice-covered land slopes weren't  skatable and hard to reach bec of moats.  But vast swaths of super smooth ice reminiscent of early season, as well as delightful. very light orange peel areas.

Access was the biggest issue.  After checking out the dam launch on Rt 135 and seeing sketchy combo of moats and chopped up ice chunks, went to the Dodge Hill launch at the end of Old Waterford Road and walked a few hundred yards north to find an access point; on the return, found somewhere a bit closer. You *definitely* want microspikes to walk the thick glare ice along the shore and the slope down to the water.  Our 10 ft board wasn't enough for the moats right at Dodge. Almost no hazards once on the good ice,  going both north & south. Couldn't go as far north as usual, current had fully opened up sections & got rougher too.

Note that because this is a dam-controlled location, the water level could rise or fall and  the moats make access easier or harder at any given time (including change that can happen during the day).

No wind, sun, and the peace of this wilderness setting with no houses made for a special outing.

Pics in whatever order:
15 mile track;
challenging access that doesn't look promising but have faith;
faith paying off.

thanks Dr.Jo et al. for all these great and detailed reports—I’m jealous of y’all.
I used the two-man kayak boarding technique onto the ice of Lake George yesterday. the ice is mostly terrible, but I got a few lunch miles in off Bolton and scratched that itch for the day anyway.

Headed up to Lake Placid tomorrow to watch the great Jessie Diggins finish up her cross country ski career at the World Cup--Does anyone know if there's skating to be had at Cascades? Nancy? LG Track and pics below.

Thanks for the detailed report. Planning to go tomorrow morning with a friend.

Is it always a good idea to bring a board?

Is there anyway to know about releases?

Yes, the weather has been crazy and forecast not so accurate
When I looked at Littleton, it looked like the night temps for in the high 20s and predicting a little snow not rain Friday. We’ll just have to see.
I will probably go to Sunapee if Jamie skates again there and I’m gonna ask him how it was today
