Hi all -- long time reader, first time posting. A few friends and I skated at Leddy this afternoon (2/8). Beautiful lanes of black ice between snow drifts made for a fun winding maze across the bay. The ice looked to be 5+ inches thick everywhere we skated, and in many places, it was so clear you could see the sand beneath. Please let me know if there's any other important info I forgot!
Happy skating,
Sofia

Sofia,
Did you happen to collect a track from today?  I'd like to try to match up your report to the new satellite imagery that came out today.  No big deal if you didn't. Thanks.
Dan

Here are two labelled photos looking south and SW out on Apple Tree Bay from near Beachcrest Drive south of Leddy Park, just after 5 pm this evening. I watched three skaters skirting snow drifts, finding lanes, moving right along northwards from the tip of Rock Point to likely the Leddy Beach area.

One photo shows in “medium gray” what is possibly still open water further out from Rock Point?
