Hello Everyone,

I just wanted  to pass along something I thought was neat and something I know a lot of the more longer term skaters may appreciate. I am currently in Sweden taking full advantage of the best ice conditions in over a decade skating saltwater ice out into the open Baltic Sea. I have attached a couple of pics. What I am writing about however is that a few days ago I met a gentleman in the ice who remembered meeting Bob Dill  when he came over in 2010. He remembered his excitement to learn everything he could about the Swedish skating culture and environment. I find it truly fascinating how small and tight our community is. Hope you guys all got in one last Sebago or Champlain outing before the snow flies

Matt, this is so inspiring... Thank you so much for sharing both story and photos, and enjoy the rest of your stay!

Matt,

You are lucky to be getting those conditions.  I was there with Bob - it was 2014, not 2010 - and we were told we had the worst conditions in the 100 year history of the Stockholm Skating Club.  Almost three weeks of mediocre skating at best, no salt water skating at all, but, finally, a fantastic weekend up on Lake Siljan in Dalarna.  That weekend alone made the trip worth it. We also learned a whole lot about how the Swedes do the sport.  And Bob and I gave a presentation to the Stockholm club on how we did it in the U.S. (which, at the time,  was, of course, relatively underdeveloped and didn't compare to Sweden's depth and practice.) Bob did the technical stuff; I told jokes (in Swedish). BTW, do you know the name of the "gentleman" who remembered Bob?  I might remember him.

Thank you, David!  Yes, it was 2015, not 2014.
Here's a kind of hokey video I made up on Siljan:
