Hi Armando and all,

Where is the "discontinue" option for concepts in VB3? It seems I can only delete the concepts, not discontinue them -- is that correct? Thus, instead of being marked as "suggested discontinuation" or something of the sort (like in VB2), they disappear from the visualization module even before their removal is validated, and once deleted they disappear completely from the dataset. Is there no function for discontinuation anymore? Or what are we missing?

Kind regards,

Amanda

Hi Amanda,

What you are asking is I guess the deprecate option.

It is available through the upper-right corner of the resource view. So, you must focus on the concept (or whichever kind of other resource you want to deprecate) so that the resource-view is open on that resource, and then you can deprecate it.

In VB3 we enabled the possibility to delete, as in many a scenario we observed that users wanted more control on the dataset. So, both delete and deprecate options are now available.

If validation is enabled, any deprecation action becomes subject to validation (and is thus the equivalent of the old “proposed deprecated”).

Cheers,

Armando

P.S: if you want to forbid deletion, so that a user can only deprecate at most, you can play with roles by creating new ones, and forbidding the deletion. For instance, the role “thesaurus editor” is described by the following capabilities:

capability(rdf(skos),"CRUD")

capability(rdf(sparql),"R")

if you want a similar role that cannot delete, you can create a new role and copy these capabilities, but removing the “D” (D stands for delete), in such a way:

capability(rdf(skos),"CRU")

capability(rdf(sparql),"R")

you can find more information here: http://vocbench.uniroma2.it/doc/user/users.jsf#role_management . It is complete (see the table at the end) but we could add more examples. In any case, that page together with the examples provided by the factory roles packed with the system can give you quite some starting material to play with

Hi Armando,

Yes, deprecating is what I had in mind. I'm glad to know both options are available. And once again, thank you for the explanations! :)

Kind regards,

Amanda

Hey hi all!

Is there a way to un-deprecate a term after deprecating it? Or setting up the period for which it was deprecated /valid etc?

Thanks!
