I'd like to recommend version 2.6.1, which is on master but not yet an official release, to some colleagues because of the VirtualGL fix included in it, however they need an official release. As a bug fix, will 2.6.1 be officially released any time soon?

Kind regards,
Martin

Generally I will put out a point release when either six months have
passed since, or there are at least four significant changes relative
to, the previous release-- whichever comes first. Can you not use the
pre-release binaries in the meantime?
https://virtualgl.org/DeveloperInfo/PreReleases That is what they're
for. Pre-release binaries for Linux are built using the same Docker
container as the official releases, so there should be basically no
difference between the Linux binaries here:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/virtualgl-pr/master/linux/index.html

and here:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/virtualgl/files/2.6/

except that the former contains the bug fix. If an organization's
policies do not allow the use of those pre-release binaries, then that
is not my problem. Furthermore, the 2.6 beta release was available for
testing for four months, so there was plenty of time for organizations
to test that beta release and report the bug in question. Had that been
done, then the bug fix would have been included in the 2.6 official
release. I hope this underscores the importance of testing beta
releases if you intend to eventually upgrade to the new version.

Thanks for the prompt and clear answer. I was unaware of the release policy and the preleases-binaries, my mistake. I'll recomend the latter ones and let them decide if to use them or wait.

Kind regards,
Martin
