Tuesday May 19 hike: Old Forge Picnic Area north on AT, 8:30 am

We will start from the Old Forge Picnic Area in Michaux State Forest and go north on the AT about 8 miles to the end of the bouldery section. For those staying with the group or who know the area, can stop at Chimney Rocks on the way back.  Then take the Chimney Rock Vista Trail a short way to connect to Chimney Rocks Road (dirt) left/ downhill to Hermitage Trail to connect back to the AT and back to the start. Can also just do an out and back on this nice section of the AT for as long as you like- should be lots of mountain laurel. Pit toilets and water at the start. 

About an hour and a half drive from Carderock. We will try to start around 8:30

Carpool from Carderock lot. Start from the first parking lot at Carderock Recreation Area (38.9723,-77.1996).  Exit the beltway for Clara Barton Parkway West (towards Potomac), in less than a mile exit and follow signs into Carderock Rec Area (for the first parking area turn right and then an immediate left). 

Please let me know if you will meet at carpool (Carderock) or at the trailhead.
