Companion App works in Firefox but not Chromium or Chromium offshoot Brave browser

Hello,

I just switched from linux mint to Ubuntu 20.0.4, and after finally getting the companion app working through gdebi package, it only works with firefox and not chromium,
when I go into the settings it says:

Companion App not installed

Checking companion app returned: Specified native messaging host not found.

"

Has anyone run into this issue before or know a fix?

sorry we only support Firefox Edge and Chrome, but it should be working with Chromium. Did you try cleaning and reinstall ?

Chromium shouldn't be an issue, I had this set up working perfectly previous on Linux Mint, but changed OSes to Ubuntu. And tried reinstalling many times (the browser, the companion application itself, the video download helper add on), as well as reinstalling my computer
