Take a look over here:

That's one you'll probably want to bookmark for easy future reference. For this issue,
click the link I just gave & do a string search on "revalidate" in there. That shows you
what is supposed to work. Do please post again (using Reply all) to let us know how you
get on with this. Do NOT use Reply to author. The button you want is Reply all.

I did not find your license, did you use another email address at purchase time ? You can send me info in private.

Jérôme. between what I said & what you said, we could very well have confused this user.
I told him to use the Reply all button and avoid the Reply to author button. That's on
the assumption he was going to try what I said & let me (and the world) know how it went.
I don't want people doing Reply to author on me. But you have a different purpose.
Instead of just saying, "send me info in private," you should say "send me info in
private by clicking the Reply to author button." You want people sending you private
E-mails about license subjects. I don't want people sending me any E-mails in private.
I don't work for VDH. You do. We have different agendas. Replies to me should be
posted here on the web site for everybody to read. That's what the Reply all button
does. Replies to you containing sensitive information like purchase information, name,
invoice number, license number, E-mail addresses should go to you via the Reply to author
button. I know you know that. But not everybody posting questions here knows that. So
I suggest you add a helpful hint about the Reply to author button in your posts, just to
make things clear for people who may not know about these things.

It looks like our pal DEF13 here was replying while I was writing my post. He clearly
understands the functions of the 2 Reply buttons. That doesn't change my suggestion,
though. Enough people send me private E-mails that should be posts that it would still
be helpful if you explicitly specify which button they should use to communicate with you.

Willy - the dialogs on my Firefox don't say "Reply to Author", only "Reply" and "Reply All".
I sent you a message a few days ago which I meant to be only you, using the "Reply" button,
thinking (perhaps erroneously) that was a "private message", but it seems that it went to
the general list anyway.  At this moment I'm thinking those "Reply" and "Reply All" buttons
are meaningless and everything goes to the group anyway.
Another Google anomaly?

Max, here's a partial screenshot of what I see when I log onto Google Groups through Firefox:

#01.jpg

I believe, if I'm not mistaken, do correct me if I'm wrong, that you are not actually logging onto Google Groups.  You are in the GMail interface.  It offers a different interface to Groups.  Although I have a GMail account set up (obviously, you can see that my E-mail address is at GMail), I never use the GMail interface to post here.  The private message I got from you recently did come to me alone.  The message headers showed only me as the addressee.  However, I believe when you click the "other" button, whichever one that is, for posting in the Group, it seems like that not only posts in the thread but it also sends a duplicate E-mail to me in private.  That's what happened with your most recent post here, & that seems to be the way other posts from you have been.  I am generally not subscribed to threads I post in.  I usually E-mail my posts to a thread from my E-mail client app on my desktop system.  I don't log on here to post . . . usually.  I am logged on at the moment to post this, but that's just so I could capture that screenshot.  Rather, I let Google send me a summary E-mail once a day instead of having it send me an E-mail with every post that appears in the Group.

So I think the interface you are using works as you always believed it did.  It's just that you are not using the standard web interface to Groups but rather the GMail interface to Groups.  They are apparently different.  Am I close to right about this?

Willy - As usual, you have batted 1000 ... I'm getting messages on gmail in an account
I would never even have except for this group.  The attached screenshot shows what I see
on my screen - (if I did this post correctly - have never posted a screenshot here before this....)

So the exercise was worth it. You learned how to post a screenshot. It seems that the
Reply button in GMail is the equivalent of the Reply to author button in the regular web
interface. The Reply all buttons do the same thing in both interfaces. Using GMail to
post to this group, though, has the annoying habit of posting in the thread on the web
site as well as echoing the post in a private E-mail. I don't know if there is a way to
adjust the E-mail headers so the post goes only to the group & is not also echoed to the
other poster. I mean, I can see your posts here in the group. I don't really need them
E-mailed to me. They're just duplicates. But it's a minor thing I can live with. It's
just that in addition to your screenshot, I also got my post embedded within your reply,
which means the E-mail echo also included the screenshot I posted along with the
screenshot you posted. You know I sometimes post tutorials with entire sequences of
images. I would really not like it if you replied to one of those & I ended up with an
E-mail that had my 20 screenshots attached. Do please look into what can be done to
simply post here without also echoing the post via an E-mail.

Also, I'm not sure I see the connection between posting here & using GMail. Yes, you
need a Google user ID to post here but you don't need to use GMail. I set up my GMail
account only about a year ago when I changed ISPs. I decided it was so painful to have
to notify everybody that I was changing ISPs that I decided to activate the GMail address
I had always had but never set up. (And there were a few important people I forgot to
notify anyway.) That way, if I ever change ISPs again, my E-mail address will still be
my GMail address. Before that, I was posting here using a different ISP & an E-mail
address that was not at GMail. No matter where your E-mail address is, you can post here
via E-mail without logging on. I've got a reference to a tutorial for that in the Table
of Contents thread. I sent this post to the group using my E-mail client on my desktop.
I did not log on here, I did not use the regular web interface to Groups, & I did not use
the GMail web interface. The fact that I happen to use a GMail address is a minor
detail. Like I say, this technique worked when I had a different, non-GMail address.
Even though I have a GMail address, I never use the GMail interface to post here. If I
log on, I just come into the group directly & post using the Groups interface. But I
usually do not log on. So you don't really need to use the GMail interface to post here.
