I'm afraid I don't know. I had a look at the machine and it appeared to be in great shape, with all the basic tooling you would expect:
- 3 & 4 jaw chucks as well as a face plate (3 jaw seemed almost brand new)
- steady rest
- change gears
- quick change tool post, a few carbide insert turning tools & even more HSS tools
- bed had no dings, carriage moved smoothly and only got slightly tighter towards the tailstock
- motor and spindle ran smooth & quiet
- no broken back gear teeth
- Steel stand included
- The owner was deceased and the seller was liquidating his assets - sad, but that seems to be the way it goes. Same story for my "unknown #129" lathe.
...but unfortunately the timing wasn't right for me and it wouldn't have been prudent to make that kind of purchase right now. After quite a bit of deliberation, I chose not to bid and emailed the seller to thank him for his time. I think a lathe like that could have sold for a fair bit more than the $2000 asking price - perhaps $2500?
I'm still on the lookout for a nice old lathe; something like a Schaublin 70 would be great, but here I am complaining that Myfords are hard to find and I don't have enough money. ...I guess I'd better just shut up and look at lathe porn instead...
