If you're anything like me and don't read the VCAA bulletins particularly closely (!), you might've also missed the news that the new VCE Philosophy Study Design has been published.

Hope everyone is having a great holiday break!

Yeah saw that.

No real change except Unit 4: On Belief.

I missed the last VAPS catch up so I might be going over old ground.

Will wait for the update.

Hello VAPS VCE teachers

I hope everyone is travelling well.

I am collating the 2025 VCE Philosophy Booklist through the library and they have asked me if anyone has a copy of the following as they are having difficulty resources the extracts:

Happy to share our digital copy of the texts for 2025 once we are sorted.

Many thanks, Deb

Thank you so much Joshua (I resent this as the VAPs email bounced back from my school account) and credit and appreciation to T.J. Foreman - I too, will check texts but I'm so grateful.

It's great to be back on VCE Philosophy and working with the VCE team.

Kind regards, Deb

Hi Deb,

I have attached a .pdf which was shared around on the VAPs Facebook group – I’m not on Facebook, so I can’t credit the legend responsible, but maybe someone else in the group knows who to thank.

Disclaimer: I haven’t yet gone through this document with a fine-toothed comb, and I’m aware that there is at least one issue with the De Beauvoir text, but at a glance it seems otherwise pretty comprehensive!

Hope that helps!

Hi Deb,

looks like you've sourced it, but if there's a need for another copy I have the pdf of the text in question.

Let me know if you need another copy.

Thanks,

Peter

Hello VAPS Network

Thank you for the responses to the development of an Anthology of Readings for 2025.

Working with the library, we have checked the extracts and page numbers and I've just spoken with VCAA Curriculum Manager, Adam, about one error.

FYI: Miranda Fricker (2009) Epistemic Injustice and the Ethics of Knowing. The VCAA prescribed texts for 2025 cites:
  • pp 98-108 'The picture of the virtue of testimonial injustice...that is present in any human society'
But, should read:
  • pp 98-108 'The picture of the virtue of testimonial justice...that is present in any human society'
Adam asked me about the John Stuart Mill references and I think they are right. Do others agree?

Please let me know if you have any issues with the 2025 text list as I'm about to print copies.

On another note, we chatted about VAPS or VCAA delivering PD and Adam thinks it will happen after the exam this year. Also, I requested some model responses/exemplars from those you have been part of the major overview of the Study Design so we can begin studies next year with confidence of what is required of our students.

I am hoping VAPS will be able to guide us to begin a new way of teaching philosophy according to the new Study Design.

Looking forward to hearing others' views, Deb

Hi VAPS,
just letting people know that Anna and I are in the middle of writing new textbooks for the course (a completely new book for Year 12 and a very revised new edition for Year 11).  Both Anna and I were part of the Study Design panel and I was part of the text selection panel, so we have a very good knowledge of the intentions of the new course.  Our publishing deadline is the end of September so the book will be available to support teachers in the development of their courses in October.
Kind Regards,
Lenny
