I am having a problem with ft8 calls I make with my IC-3300.  As soon as the call is made, I get the following:: "Error in sound input: An error opening the input device has occurred", and "Do you want to reconfigure the radio interface?"  If I continue, I also get "Hamlib error while opening connection to rig"..

I got a series of questions from a W10 robot  after it did my requested Trouble Shooting.  One of these questions asked me if I had heard a "beep". (I hadn't.). The robot requested me to allow it to reinstall he audio driver.  It didn't make any difference.

It seems to me that the USB A/B cable is somehow behind this, but it is the correct cable, and is properly connecting the laptop to the 7300 rig.

Any suggestions?

Under some conditions RF interferes with the usb connection of the soundcard used my wsjtx.  Try reducing RF power or Re-running the USB cable to keep away from coax.   Something to try.

I had a similar problem when I first started using WSJT.  I placed tortoises around the power cable for the laptop, as well as the two USB cables ( one running to the Signallink and the other to the radio).  I also made some chokes in the cable.  It helped a lot!

Hello Herb
Let's just start and stop with the "Error in sound input: An error opening the input device has occurred"

Has your setup been working fine up to this point? If so, what has changed?

I agree with Lowell that it may be RFI. Have you rearranged your shack and your cabling?

Have you made any changes to your antenna system that may have introduced new issues.

Windows may have tagged you with an update and altered some of your sound settings. Double check your microphone settings.
Right click - Windows Start Menu / Settings / Privacy / Microphone and make sure the "Allow Apps to access your microphone" is turned on. Also shut off any of the other apps that may be trying to use your microphone input. If you have just setup Zoom or Skype or Camera or something else, you could have inadvertently caused your issue.

Above all make sure you use a good USB cable, don't cut corners with the Dollar Tree brands.

A few suggestions fir you to try, good luck Emoji

Isn’t spell check great!  Should’ve read toroids.

Thanks to you who have replied to my request I am in the midst of preparing things you have suggested, to see what works.  Unfortunately, I am now in trouble with my antenna tuner, which is not tuning either of my working antennas at all.
So, first things first!  I'll be back.

To you who have responded to my request for WSJT-X help, I'm back Today I opened my Murch manual tuner and checked everything. The hardest part was to take apart everything attached to that and the IC-7300, the latter being on top of the tuner in a cubbyhole. Then, it all had to be put together again.  The tuner problem turned out to be two loose screws.  Now it tunes every band I have interest in again, PTL !
So, now I am looking into all your suggestions for fixing the WSJT-X error problems.  One thing is for sure.... I have RFI.  I will need to check the antennas, too.
I'll let you know what I learn.
