மரா மரம் என்பது பனை அல்ல. 

முருகனுக்கு உகந்த கடம்பு என்பது செங்கடம்பு மரம் என்ன என்று பேசும்போது சொல்லியுள்ளேன்.

மரா/மராஅம்/மரவம்  என இலக்கியங்களில் சொல்லப்படுபவை மூன்று பெருமரங்கள் தாம்.
(1) சுருளி/சுள்ளி (சூர்ணீ = வடமொழிப்பெயர்). இது பாரதப்புழா நதி. பரம்பிக்குளம் ஆறு,
ஆழியாறு சேர்த்துக்கொண்டு பாயும் சுள்ளியம் பேரியாறு. இதன் கரையில் முசிறிப் பட்டினம் உள்ளது.
யவனர்கள் வந்து மிளகுக்கறி கொண்ட துறைமுகம்.

(2) யா என்னும் ஆச்சா மரவகைகள். Shorea trees, காராச்சா, ....

(3) கடம்பு : செங்கடம்பு (முருகன் அணிவது), வெண்கடம்பு, பந்துக் கடம்பு (காதம்பரி என்னும் கள் தயாரிப்பது. அம்பாளின் மலர்), ...

மரா மரம் என்ற பெயர் தமிழில் உள்ள அரிதான ஓர் TAUTONYM ஆகும். மரம் என்ற தாதுமூலத்தாலேயே
அழைக்கும் மரங்கள் இவைதாம். கேரளாவின் மிகப்பெரிய ஆற்றின் பெயராக முசிறிப் பட்டினத்தைக்
கடலில் கலக்குமிடத்தில் கொண்டதுமான ஆறு மரா மரங்களில் ஓருவகை. இன்னொன்று:
கொற்றவை (பாலை) நிலத்தின் யா (ஆச்சா மரவகை. இது காராச்சா) சால மரம் வெண்மையான பூக்களைக் கொண்ட யா மரம்.
யாவகம்(/சாவகம்) தீவின் பெயரையே அளிக்கும் மரம் இந்த மரா மர வகை. கடம்பு என்னும் மராமரம் -
சொல்லவே வேண்டியதில்லை. முருகப்பிரானின் மரம். பாணன், பறையன். துடியன், கடம்பன் என்ற
பழைய தமிழ் அந்தணர்கள் - அணங்காடிகள் - பற்றி நால்வருணத்திற்கு எதிர்ப்பாடல் புறப்பாட்டாக உள்ளது.
இதில் கடம்பன் = கடப்ப மலரணியும் வேலன் என்னும் வெறியாடி. 

இலந்தையின் பயாலஜி பெயர்: Ziziphus zizyphus 
This way of naming is called Tautonymy. We can find out who (which scientist) started this in biology (in zoology, botany).
The characteristic animal, plant is named the same name twice to emphasize its importance among the related animals.
"maraa maram" means "THE tree". Biological Science's naming convention has a precedent in Tamil's "maraam".

நொய்தின் நொய்ய சொல் நூற்கலுற்றேன் எனை
வைத வைவின் மராமரம் ஏழ் துளை
எய்த எய்தவற்கு எய்திய மாக்கதை
செய்த செய் தவன் சொல் நின்ற தேயத்தே  - கல்வியிற் பெரிய கம்பர்.
 
இங்கே மராம் என்பது யா மரம் (=ஆச்சா/சாலம்).. மரா என்ற தமிழ்ச் சொல், ராம என்ற தெய்வப்பெயரை வால்மீகிக்குத் தந்துள்ளது.

மரா மரா என்று சொல்லி ராம, ராம என்று ஆகி வேடன் வடமொழியின் ஆதிகவி ஆனார்.

“மரா” “மரா” என்ற உபதேசம் ராம ராம எனும் மந்திரம் ஆகி வான்மீகியை பதப்படுத்திய செய்தி நாம் அறிந்ததுதான்.

வாலியின் மார்பில் ராமபாணம் பாய்ந்த போது அதனை எய்தவன் யாரென்று பார்க்க அம்பைக் கண்ணுறும் வாலி. “ராம” எனும் நாமத்தையே காண்கிறான்-. அது வெறும் நாமம் மட்டுமில்லை என்பதை அந்தப் பாடலிலேயே கம்பர் தெளிவுப்படுத்துகிறார்.

மும்மைசால் உலகுக்கெல்லாம்
             மூலமந்திரத்தை, முற்றும்
தம்மையே தமர்க்கு நல்கும்
            தனிப்பெரும் பதத்தை, தானே
இம்மையே எழுமை நோய்க்கும்
            மருந்தினை. “இராம” என்னும்
செம்மைசேர் நாமம் தன்னைக்                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      கண்களில் தெரியக் கண்டான்.

Not palm trees. These are Saalam trees, called Yaa trees in Sangam, and later as Aacha.
BTW, Aacchaa trees are good for making Nagasvaram reed pipes, 
the characteristic Open Space wind instruments of Chozha temples.

இது பற்றி ஏற்கனவே முன்பு கேள்விப்பட்டிருந்ததால் தான் எனக்கும் ஐயம் வந்தது. 
பனை புல்வகை தான். 
ஆனால் முதிர்ந்த பனைமரம் இரும்பு போன்ற வலிமை உடையதாக இருக்கும்.
அப்படிப்பட்ட மரத்திலிருந்து செய்த சாமான்களை ஒரே ஒரு முறை கண்டிருக்கிறேன்.

இது அகம்.- 158ல் கபிலர் பாடியது.
"மன்ற மராஅத்த......"; அதாவது ஊர்ப்பொது மன்றத்தில் இருந்த மராமரம் .
அதனால் பனை என்று கொள்ள இயலாது. பனை எல்லோருக்கும்  நிழல் அளிக்க இயலாது.
ஊர்மன்றம் என்றாலே அனைவரும் கூடுவதற்கேற்ற நிழல் வேண்டுமல்லவா ?
எனவே இது கடம்பாக இருக்க வாய்ப்புண்டு .
