vagrant plugin required to use vmware?

Probably a stupid question for this group but I need to know before spending even more money.

I have vagrant and vmware_workstation 14 installed.  Do I now need to buy the vagrant plugin also to vagrant up a vmware box?  

At this point I am guessing the answer is yes.  Seems like a lot of money.   Hope this is worth it over virtual box.

The plugin cost 79 USD, there is a month to request a refund, no question asked.

To be able to vagrant up a vmware desktop vm, yes, the plugin is required.
