Hi everyone,
We are pleased to announce the release of the Vagrant VMware Desktop plugin. This plugin supports VMware Workstation on Windows and Linux platforms, and VMware Fusion on macOS. It is the unification of the existing Vagrant VMware Workstation plugin and the Vagrant VMware Fusion plugin. The existing Workstation and Fusion plugins are now considered deprecated and all new development will be focused on the Desktop plugin.
Users are encouraged to update to the Vagrant VMware Desktop plugin. For existing users of the Vagrant VMware Workstation or Vagrant VMware Fusion plugins this is a free update. Existing licenses for the Fusion and Workstation plugins are compatible with the Desktop plugin.
This plugin introduces a new utility service to provide consistent behavior across platforms. The utility service is required by the Vagrant VMware Desktop plugin. More information about the utility, including installation instructions, can be found here:
https://www.vagrantup.com/docs/vmware/vagrant-vmware-utility.html
When upgrading from the existing VMware Workstation or VMware Fusion plugins it is recommended to halt/destroy all existing Vagrant managed VMware VMs. The Desktop plugin includes updates to port forward handling and this will reduce the chance of lost port forward entries.
A number of bug fixes and improvements have been included within this release along with the unification of the plugins.
* Added generic provider name: vmware_desktop
* Prevent VMX warnings from printing on existing guests
* Updated network configuration and interactions
* Package command support
