I just installed vagrant. When running

# vagrant up

I get the following error message:

There was an error while executing `VBoxManage`, a CLI used by Vagrant
for controlling VirtualBox. The command and stderr is shown below.

Command: ["startvm", "7f60a54f-b6ad-4e22-b1fd-eef4d9d7c770", "--type", "headless"]

Stderr: VBoxManage: error: The virtual machine 'quorum-examples_default_1509909816865_60718' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1)
VBoxManage: error: Details: code NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005), component MachineWrap, interface IMachine

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you very much for your help

Long thread of different people trying different things:

Most likely installation of VirtualBox is not in a good shape. I'd start with testing if I can run stuff in VirtualBox on it's own, without Vagrant first.

Hello

Check the versions, Vagrant 2.0 and Virtualbox 5.1.30 works fine.

the error is coming from Virtualbox, so will be good to test if you can create and boot a VM directly on Virtual box.

If you open VirtualBox gui, try to stop/start the VM created by Vagrant.

any error?

Just had the same issue with virtualbox 5.2 on ubuntu 17.10. couldnt start a vm from the gui either.

downgrading to virtualbox 5.1 fixed it.
