From the link you pasted, if I click on "Installing Standalone" then I am taken to this link: https://www.instantiations.com/docs/91/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm#href=ig/instgdlx6.htmlRight there you have all the information you need. Phrases like "Unzip the downloaded VA Smalltalk product installer."... and then:"Change directories to the folder created by unzipping the documentation installer package. Then as root, or by using the sudo command, execute ./vainstall standalone."

So, it wasn't clear to me what tar would put where and which directory in the result to navigate to.
(I was assuming the instructions for the documentation would be similar to the ones for the product code.)
