Hello,

looking for log4s on Instantiations site

https://www.google.com/search?q=log4s+site:.instantiations.com

I've found terms varying from "port of log4j", "based on ideas from ...
log4j" to "our participation in the open source community".
And, of course, the Visualage details on Programmer's Reference.

Then I've found log4s also on a Pharo catalog
    https://catalog.pharo.org/catalog/project/Log4s
and on a Gemstone page
    http://ss3.gemstone.com/ss/Log4s.html/Overview

So I'm asking (or, better, querying : "ask to know") :
there's a log4s reference edition publicly available as open source ?
(or the "original one" - then adapted to pharo, Gemstone, and others ?)

Thank-you very much,

    Davide Grandi

Found by going to
and going to "All VA Smalltalk documents" and doing a Search.  In the navigation pane on the left, you see this is the start of a chapter that you can dive into.

Thank-you, and sorry for my convoluted english :

I was asking :
- for the license type (MIT, if I'm not wrong)
- and for the sources : actual, ported, reference or whatever

Thank-you again,

    Davide

Greetings Davide,

A port of Log4s was released under the MIT license to the opensource community in 2013.
I believe it was tested on Pharo 2 and landed in an opensource repo (Monticello based?)
I personally don't remember more details than that, Instantiations were not the maintainers
of the project within that repo...we just provided the initial port.

I would bet someone (perhaps here) on one of the other forums (Squeak/Pharo) may know
were it could be found.

Hope this helps

Seth,

Can you provide a reasonably short summary of how Log4s compares to the VA logging framework?

Hi Richard,

I'm assuming you mean the EsLoggingFramework and friends?
That is log4s.  I'm sure there were some changes in the port to Pharo/Squeak that had to
be made for those environments, but other than that they should be similar (plus any mods we did since then).
