I'll pass your (very valid) question on to the board if that's ok with you. The Endowment Committee has access to a broker, but don't know if the fellowship does. Will ask they advise directly.

Thanks for your support!

I assume that the already $ hurting fellowship is probably hurting even more in the present scenario. Do you know if the church has any kind of brokerage firm it deals with?  The reason ask is because in canada if we donate shares in kind to charitable organization, that org can cash them in at anytime and not have to pay capital gains.  If I cashed  them in  to donate money, i would have to pay capital gains tax to govt which would greatly decrease the amount of the contribution.  I know your capital gains taxes are less than ours, but I dont know if the IRS has similar system.  if they do, do congregants know that? It can make abig difference in that bottom line.

Hi Bob:

The Fellowship has a brokerage account with TD Ameritrade.  The account # is 498138123.  The DTC# is 0188.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Regards,

Paul Libert, Treasurer

A gift of appreciated securities is treated the same way here.  Neither the donor nor the church would be liable for the capital gains tax.

Thanks.  They were very prompt to answer.  Great. The next hurdle is how canada revenue agency sees cross boeder stuff. When i checked before, the only foreign charity they accepted for reduction was to your alma mater, and frankly, Princeton doesnt seem to rank particularly high on the list of charities in desperate need as the Meg Whitman’s send their hundred million dollar bequests-another good thing abkut that is that is 100,000,000 lessthan she has to donate to trump.

A possibility in that situation might be to approach the canadian unitarian council tosee if i contribute to them with the understanding that half goes to boca. I realize it’s selfish of me to be concerned with the tax issues for me, but it is part of it.i gotta do some more work.

 Thanks ,bob
