Not comi-tragic, and not The Comedy of Errors either :There was supposedly a “Crisis in Heaven", a rebellion in heaven led by Lucifer, and according to Christian eschatology which corresponds nicely with the concept of “as above, so below”, there will soon be a major crisis on earth, another rebellion led by the incarnate Anti-Christ who - God forbid - will want to install himself in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and demand that pilgrims to the Holy Land worship him as The Almighty
There are many contemporary candidates for the unenviable title of anti-Christ, these dark days. Who among contemporary mortals do you think is arrogant enough to want to fulfil that role? Arrogate to himself, the title "Almighty God” ?
There’s Erik Linklater’s Crisis in Heaven ( An Elysian Comedy) in which the following characters among others , meet in the Hereafter / Olam ha-ba / Heaven / Jannah, to have it out: Abraham Lincoln, Alexander Pushkin, Aristophanes, Florence Nightingale, Frederick the Great (King of Prussia) Galen (an ancient Roman physician) The Vicar of Bray (a satirical figure from an English folk song) Voltaire (the French Enlightenment philosopher) and Helen of Troy (another mythical figure). They score many satirical points about life in general and the then still-ongoing Second World War.
We performed a few scenes from that play for our annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day, when we were in the Third form of Secondary School ( I still remember my one line exclamation which was “ Look to the lady ! ” - at the point where Florence Nightingale was about to faint and collapse)
Fast forward to November 2025 and I'm sure that “there are many here among us, who feel that life is but a joke”, especially the wannabe Philip Roth (The Breast) the wannabe Kafka ( Metamorphosis) the wannabe Gogol ( The Nose) and of course, the wannabe Dostoevsky ( The Idiot // The Humiliated and Insulted) who just like yours truly could be toying with the idea of a Crisis in Heaven 3 in which the following characters would mix and mingle and sort of try to sort things out posthumously : Abraham Lincoln, Barack Obama, Malcolm X, Jeffrey Epstein, his buddy Donald J Trump, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Adam Schiff, Nina Simone, Nancy Pelosi, and last but not least, Khalid Abdul Muhammad…
There is Dante’s The Divine Comedy too, which, just as with Karl Marx’s Das Kapital, few people have read in its entirety , but as usual everybody likes to talk about Marxism, and of course to hold forth about Dante, some scholars and archaeologists of textual criticism, to forage connections between Dante and the Miraj

At this point of human existence on this planet, I don't believe that Professor Bernard Porter has much faith in the possibilities of ”Divine Intervention” - a kind of ”saved by the bell”. Professor Porter’s dark forebodings," Night Thoughts “ begin with the feeling that “the world is hurtling towards a catastrophic end” and ends with the not too subtle incitement that in the evolving doomsday scenario getting heated up by a climate change whereby we may soon all end up being fried like Kentucky chicken, that and other dangers could be averted he says by “getting rid of Trump and Britain’s press magnates”. However, he cautions that “getting rid of Trump and Britain’s press magnates won’t do it alone. But you could maybe start with them.” I suppose that makes sense to some people, and if “some people" includes the vast majority of Trump’s American People that he wants to make great again, I’m doubtful that such American people would gladly wanna start with their wannabe Emperor Trump, or, to use an old Igbo proverb, that they should start with the head of the snake ( in Yoruba, it’s the head of the fish) and please take note, that proverb was in existence long before Malcom X started referring to the United States as “United Snakes”, alternately The United Snakes of America.
Indeed, since according to Runoko Rashidi “History is a light that illuminates the past, and a key that unlocks the door to the future”, it's no wonder or miracle that
some historians claim that they have a unique perspective that is almost scientifically able to produce verifiable results when predicting the future. They feel that they
are strategically situated because they have a backlog of past data to pore over, analyse and therefore stand a better chance at predicting who's going to win the FIFA World Cup next year. If only they would put their money where their mouth is then they would probably all be billionaires and would therefore be the ruin of the lads at Ladbrokes. More interestingly, at this point in time, they would be telling us more or less how the Epstein Files Scandal is going to end , and with due process, depending on the degree of his involvement, whether or not Donald J Trump is going to be impeached -just as Bill Clinton was impeached over the Monica Lewinsky Affair .This could drag on for weeks and months as headline news for the world media, overshadowing more important things happening on our planet. Back then, during the height of the Lewinsky Affair I was in Putney, in London, and marvelled how the holier-than-thou Sunday editions of the major morning papers moralised about the whole affair, for them it was some kind of Profumo Affair revisited, with Mandy Rice-Davis/ Kristine Keeler all over again, and this unforgettable tit-bit:
