April 15, 2025 – Washington, D.C. — Zumunta Association USA Inc., a pan-Northern Nigerian Diaspora organization based in the United States, expresses deep concern and outrage over the continued, senseless killings of innocent civilians in Plateau State and other parts of Northern Nigeria.
The recent spate of violence in Plateau State is neither isolated nor unprecedented. What is particularly alarming is the frequency, scale, and brutality of these attacks, which have resulted in the deaths of scores of men, women, and children. This disturbing trend has become a national crisis, and we are compelled to ask — is there a functioning government in place? Are we at war?
These are not just numbers. They are human lives — lives cut short without cause, leaving behind grieving families and shattered communities. As an association representing the voices of Northern Nigerians in the Diaspora, we are deeply troubled by the absence of effective security intervention and the apparent lack of accountability from those in power.
We call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to urgently investigate and address the root causes of these killings. Is it driven by access to land and resources, political manipulation, religious tension, or reprisal? The nation demands answers, and more importantly, action.
Zumunta Association USA Inc. reaffirms its commitment to non-violent conflict resolution. However, peace cannot be achieved if the perpetrators of violence are not held accountable, and if justice continues to elude the victims. Dialogue, mediation, and proactive community engagement must replace silence, neglect, and impunity.
As concerned Nigerians living abroad, we face difficult questions from our host communities who wonder why such atrocities persist without recourse. It is disheartening and embarrassing that we must explain why these killings continue in a country that claims to uphold democracy and rule of law.
We therefore call on the Federal Government and all relevant stakeholders — including security agencies, traditional leaders, civil society organizations, and religious institutions — to prioritize the protection of lives and property. This crisis must not be allowed to fester any further.
Enough is enough.
