I think Professor Soyinka while calling on the fed govt to take former President Obasanjos call seriously should have sanctioed the former president for setting the stage for the Fulanisation he now decries.

When the PDP delegation approached him (OBJ on the candidature of Atiku as presidential flag bearer was when he should cautioned the party about the Fulanisation of Nigerian politics stating that another ethnicity should have been brought forward because win or lose it would be a revolving doors of Fulani leaders. He should have prevailed on Atiku Abubakar to join hands with him in fielding a younger non Fulani candidate while both them should remain behind the scene party leaders.

As things stand now the surest bet is to allow Buharis rule to draw a curtain on the reign of the titans while there is a cross party mandate to set up the modalities to implement the presidential council option as detailed in the recent posting by Edwin Madunagu to save the nation another political collective trauma in the run up to the 2023 presidential election.

As I said at the time  of the last oresidential elections an Atiku candidature would only lead to a Buhari second term victory.  But what of the post Buhari scenario in 2023?  What if despite APC progress (or due to lack of much orogress the North decides to vote along ethnic lines relyibg on votes from the East to achieve geograohucal spread.  Then we have another 8 year Fulani rule as I projected with OBJ complicit in that outcome.

Insecurity: Soyinka warns Buhari govt over Obasanjo’s comments on Fulanisation, Islamisation agendas

Noble Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, on Wednesday warned the Federal Government of Nigeria to consider former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s comments, on rising insecurity in the country and the alleged Africa Fulanisation and Islamisation.

DAILY POST had reported that Obasanjo on Saturday decried the high level of insecurity in Nigeria, stating that the Federal Government alone cannot tackle the menace.

He regretted that both Boko Haram and herdsmen acts of violence were not treated as they should at the beginning.

Speaking in Lagos, at the Africa Day 2019 organised by United Bank for Africa (UBA), Soyinka cautioned the government against dismissing Obasanjo’s advice.

Soyinka, who spoke on the theme: “Africa’s history redefined: Our past, a path to the future”, noted that the country was going through “horrendous descent into the abyss” and that the people on the street are interested in having their problems solved.

“We should be careful not to be too dismissive over the matter. The Federal Government is leaving aside the substance, which is the high level of kidnapping, youth suicide and terrorism in the country. I support unity in Africa but we need to particularize the area of unity we seek. Even Boko Haram also tries to unify everybody.

“When you talk about Uthman Dan Fodio, what comes to people’s mind is threat to dip the Koran into the Atlantic Ocean. There are many people in this controversy. My feeling is that the response of Minister of Information shows that they are leaving behind the substance, and worried about the language.

“Obasanjo was calling for a meeting to tackle some the serious issues in the country, including youth suicide. He said there are immediate needs to sit down and discuss these issues. And I am saying there are more immediate needs to do that,” Soyinka added

ADDENDUM

And lest we forget:  Among the  big regions it is actually the Yoruba who have  had the least shot at the presidency and not the Igbo and the South East contrary to what Mr Moderator assumed in his query of what it would take to have an Igbo President.

Now that the real full pedigree of President Obasanjo is publuc knowledge both the Igbo and  Yoruba have  had a 50-50 pan- southern shot at the presidency in the person of the former president.

Then the Southeast had Goodluck Johnathan for an additional seven years in the presidency most of which he served.as executive President.

Mr Moderators question should be when would a full blooded Southwesterner be allowed to rule as live president another president ex post facto as in the case of Aa re Abiola?  It is either that in 2023 or a presidential council!
