What a heart-lifting story! Umar would probably have been denied the opportunity for leadership  in Eritrea, his natal home, lived and died in a refugee camp. His reads like the story of theBiblical Joseph, sold as a slave but also became the Prime Minister in the same foreign land, where he was a slave. Congratulations are in order, PM Umar. With your story, there is hope for Africa in the Diaspora. Thanks for sharing the good news, Dr. Checole!

This is how duplicitous  hypocritical  democracies work. They occasionally open the door for tokens, in order to have a showpiece, and oppress their minorities within. Australia throws its Black minorities in jail and oppresses them in a zillion ways. Many die there from police brutality. New Zealand is no bed of roses for the Maori indigenous population judging from the rate of incarceration  of that community, and systematic discrimination. 

Anyway, congrats to Umar for his courage.
