Nigeria is in a second civil war already anyway against Boko Haram warriors, as I have always maintained.  It was turned into an unwinnable war because of the incompetence and looting by military leaders and non resoluteness of the commander in chief about how to win the war.  Unlike the Biafran war, the commander in chief prefers to approach the war as if he was trying to quell a student demonstration on a university campus.

It will take a change of government to win the war.

​The Nigerian military that was once the toast and darling of the United Nations peacekeepers everywhere has virtually been reduced to ragtag force in the last five years - Dele Momodu.

The Nigerian Army (ground forces) that served as peacekeeping force under the United Nations transformed to ragtag force, not in the past five years but as far back as 2010 when Lieutenant General Azubuike Onyeabor Ihejirika became the Chief of Army Staff (COAS). When Boko Haram attacked Composite Group Air Force Base in Borno on December 2, 2013, with no counter attack by the army, General Ihejirika was retired and replaced with Lieutenant General Kenneth Tobiah Jacob Minimah with effect from January 2014. On March 14, 2014, Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri was attacked in broad daylight by 200 Boko Haram fighters who filed into the city in 12 Hilux pickup trucks. Then on April 14, 2014, Boko Haram abducted 276 Chibok student girls and transported them in a convoy to Sambisa forest, situated 60 kilometres away without being challenged by the Nigerian Army. Subsequent enquiries have shown that under President Jonathan, Service Chiefs were diverting security funds, meant for buying arms, recruiting and training soldiers for combat, into their private accounts. As of today, the Nigerian Army has not been reduced to ragtag force but ghost force.
